Rehabilitation elevated tank Dörnberg II
Our engineering office has successfully completed all service phases according to HOAI with regard to the planned rehabilitation of the elevated tank Dörnberg II. Elevated tank Dörnberg II is operated by Wasserbeschaffungsverband (WBV) Dörnberg, the provider of the municipal water supply.
WBV Dörnberg handles the supply of both potable water and water for firefighting for the municipalities of Ahnatal and Habichtswald in North Hesse. About 13,000 inhabitants are connected to the public water supply in these areas, in addition to agricultural enterprises and other businesses as well as public institutions such as schools, nursery schools and sports grounds. Most of the drinking water reservoirs of WBV were built in the 1970s. All pipes still consist of cast iron (SGCI). WBV Dörnberg has decided that all pipes within the drinking water reservoirs shall be gradually replaced with stainless steel pipes. In addition to the renewal of the pipelines in the elevated tank Dörnberg II, minor demolition work, new lighting and a new entrance to the water chamber have been carried out.
What is an elevated tank?
An elevated tank is a storage tank for potable water or other liquids placed on an elevated platform, a geographically elevated location, or a tower to provide higher water pressure in the supply line. For example, the tank may be built on higher ground or a hill so that gravity will cause the water to flow toward the lower areas. An elevated tank can be constructed of various materials such as concrete, steel or plastic and usually has a supply line, a drain and various controls such as valves and sensors to control the water pressure and quality. These structures are an important element of the water supply in many rural and urban areas. For more information, see the corresponding Wikipedia article.
